Henley Archaeological & Historical Group
The Henley Archaeological Group was formed by a number of local enthusiasts some twenty five years ago. Initially they carried several 'digs' in and around Henley, including the site of the old Rectory , the old 'Co-op' , the Bell Street development, and more recently the 'barn' (stables) behind the Kings Head - now turned into a civic facility by then Council. In addition it has a Building Section that has recorded many buildings in the town and area, and a Document Research Section that has transcribed of many local civic and non secular documents. As a 'reward' for its services to the town it has been granted use of a room in the Town Hall for continued research and study.
Membership numbers about seventy , but as most are long retired their principle activities consist of attending monthly lectures (held until January in the Chancer House) and going on the occasional 'outing'.
Public are admitted on payment of £1.00. Full membership is £7.00 per year.
