The HENLEY College was awarded Beacon status in October 2004. This award was made by The Department of Education and Skills at a ceremony in London by the Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, Dr Kim Howells, who commented "organisations awarded Learning and Skills Beacon status have already made an outstanding contribution to the Learning and Skills sector. The award of Beacon status will enable the sharing of this good practice, which encourages and promotes excellence and accelerates the rate of improvement across the whole sector." The award of Beacon status is the highest accolade in the post sixteen sector
