Standard entry requirements plus grade 5 in GCSE English Language or Literature, grade 4 in Maths. A GCSE in Art or Textiles is not always required if a strong interest in the subject can be demonstrated. |

Purchase of portfolio and materials plus optional visits to exhibitions. Trips usually cost between £10-15, with the exception of the Bath trip which is around £20. There are approximately 4-5 trips per year. |

You may be required to complete an activity before you start in order to help introduce you to the subject. Check back in the summer term for more details.
You will do workshops in felting, batik, tie-dye, screen printing, block printing, hand embroidery and machine embroidery. There will be the chance to learn many more skills throughout the course to encourage the development of strong personal qualities in your textile work. You are required to complete two units of work each year.
In year two you will be encouraged to work more independently and develop your work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of your choice into a finished product to include practical work and an essay.
You are also encouraged to supplement your programme with the Extended Project.
There are many courses throughout the UK that offer Textiles based qualifications, some combined with marketing. Many of the Textiles students go on to do an Art Foundation Course which offers a year of exploration before they apply to University.
This year, students have been offered Art Foundation places at Central Saint Martins, Kingston, Oxford Brookes, Bucks and Reading. A key course for students planning to continue on to university to study subjects including fine art textiles, Textile design, fashion design, fashion marketing and costume design. Possible careers include
designer, tailor, bridal wear designer/maker, artist, fashion illustration, fashion forecaster, milliner, fashion editor, retailer, fashion marketing, costume designer, art therapist, teacher, community artist, illustrator, textile restorer, fabric designer, buyer, fashion designer,
accessory designer.
Subject to tutors’ recommendations and a portfolio interview, this course guarantees the offer of a place on the College’s post A Level Foundation course in Art and Design.
Alternatively, students may consider direct entry into employment or further training.
There are many career options for students who have skills in Textiles, including in the Fashion and Textiles industry. Possible roles include designers, buyers, innovation, clothing manufacturing engineers, screen printers and many more.

I have a lot of good memories of the fantastic tutors I had while at Henley, which really made it a great experience for me. Probably one of my best memories is from the workshops and trips organised for our Textiles class. I always looked forward to our lessons where we would often learn something entirely new- some skills I have expanded and others it was a chance to do something completely different-- like screen painting or batik.
