Intermediate Apprenticeship

Business Administration

This qualification provides the foundation knowledge and the skills to assist future progression in a range of different business administration positions.  Apprentices will cover many aspects of the day-to-day duties required in a business environment, many of which are transferable into most industries and administrative positions.  Apprentices must complete 6 mandatory units and a selection of optional units to achieve the qualification.  The optional units are selected taking in to consideration the job role being carried out by the apprentice.   

 

Mandatory Units:

  • Communication in a business environment
  • Understanding employer organisations
  • Principles of providing administrative services
  • Principles of business document production and information management
  • Manage personal performance and development
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues

Duration:

13 months

Training:

  • One-off induction
  • 3/4 college workshops and work-based supported learning
  • On-the-job assessments
  • Employer led work related skills training

Suitable for:

Those starting a career in business administration, those who are changing their career path or for those who would like recognition for their skills and experience.

Progression routes:

With additional training, intermediate apprentices may be able to progress in their careers to roles including administration executive, administration team leader, office supervisor, personal assistant, secretary or a wide range of other business administration roles.

Intermediate Apprenticeship includes:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at Level 1 or 2 (depending on prior grades)
  • ERR (Employer Rights and Responsibilities)

 

Advanced Apprenticeship 

Business Administration

Aimed at apprentices who have worked in a business administration position for some time, this qualification covers the skills and knowledge to assist future progression in a range of different administration positions.  Apprentices will cover topics such as negotiation, marketing, HR, legal, presentation software systems, finance, documents and systems.  Apprentices must complete 5 mandatory units and a selection of optional units to achieve the qualification.  The optional units are selected taking into consideration the job role being carried out by the apprentice.

 

Mandatory Units:

  • Communication in a business environment
  • Manage personal and professional development
  • Principles of business communication and information
  • Principles of administration
  • Principles of business

Duration:

13 months

Training:

  • One-off induction 
  • 3/4 college workshops and work-based supported learning
  • On-the-job assessments
  • Employer led work related skills training

Suitable for:

Those who have completed the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration or have been working in an administration role for some time and would like recognition for their skills and experience.

Higher Apprenticeship

Business Administration 

The Higher Apprenticeship expands on the knowledge and competency previously achieved in areas of business administration such as; resolving administrative problems, managing workflow, communicating in a work environment, office management, recruitment, processes, professional relationships and implementing change.  Apprentices must complete 4 mandatory units and a selection of optional units to achieve the qualification.  The optional units are selected taking into consideration the job role being carried out by the apprentice. 

 

Mandatory Units:

  • Resolve administrative problems
  • Manage the work of an administrative function
  • Communicate in a business environment
  • Manage personal and professional development

Duration:

up to 24 months

Training:

  • One-off induction
  • Monthly college workshops or work-based supported learning
  • On-the-job assessments
  • Employer led work related skills training

Suitable for:

For those who have held a business administration position for some time and have a good standard of English and Maths. 

Progression Routes

With additional training, higher apprentices may be able to progress in their careers to roles including operations director, business development manager, company secretary or a wide range of managerial roles within business.

Advanced Apprenticeship includes:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Business Administration
  • ERR (Employer Rights and Responsibilities)
