Apprenticeships for those who are looking for a career working with children or who have been working in Childcare for some time and want to gain a recognised qualification.

Intermediate Apprenticeship

This qualification has been designed to help apprentices build the knowledge and skills required to work with children and young people from birth to 19 years.  Covering a range of job roles and occupational areas within childcare settings, this qualification is aimed at those who work or wish to work in a supervised position.  For apprentices who want to undertake more challenging study this course includes optional units from the Level 3 Diploma.  Apprentices must complete 11 mandatory units and a selection of optional units to achieve the qualification. 

Mandatory Units Include:

  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Child and young person development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Support positive children and young people's positive behaviour

Duration:

13 months

Training:

  • One off induction
  • Monthly college workshops or work-based supported learning
  • On-the-job assessments
  • Employer led work related skills training
  • There will also be extra sessions for functional skills if required

Suitable for:

Those who are interested in working with children in a supervised position.

Progression Routes

Progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)

 Qualification Includes:
  • Level 2 Children and Young People's Workforce
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at Level 1 or 2 (depending on prior grades)
  • ERR (Employer Rights and Responsibilities)

Advanced Apprenticeship

The Advanced Apprenticeship has been designed to help apprentices build the knowledge and skills required for working with children and young people from birth to 5 years.  In addition apprentices will learn the knowledge required for working with children up to 7 years.  Apprentices must complete 23 mandatory units to achieve the qualification.

Mandatory Units Include:

  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through the provision of food and nutrition
  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through exercise
  • Support physical care routines for children
  • Promote children's emotional well-being
  • Understand how to support children who are unwell
  • Understanding legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children

Duration:

12 - 24 months depending on prior qualifications and experience.

Training:

  • One-off induction
  • Fortnightly college workshops or work-based supported learning
  • On-the-job assessments
  • Employer led work related skills training
  • There will also be extra sessions for functional skills if required

Suitable for:

Those who have completed the Level 2 Children and Young Peoples Workforce or those who have been working within childcare for some time.

Progression Routes

Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner, foundation degree, room leader, nanny, child minder, SENCO, work based learning assessor, holiday clubs, opportunities to work abroad for holiday companies and private families.
